I've noticed that if you have the Hover Dust module active orbiter crashes when trying to load the Battlestar. Not sure if anyone else has had this problem, but i just thought i'd warn that it is probably best to run without the Hover Dust.

Hi,

I'm not sure what the Hover Dust module is but I'm guessing that it fails because the battlestar doesn't have any hover thrusters defined. I'll define a dummy one for the next release.

I have orbHoverDust loaded and run it in every scn I've ever run with RTF vessels and never had a problem from it. It's a generic module that creates a ground effect of smoke and dust blown out from the impact of the hover exhaust on a planetary surface. It's great for lunar scenarios.

What other modules do you have active in your RTF scenarios ? It may be caused by other incompatable modules. I know Faces JumpDrive MFD causes massive CTD for my system.

External MFD, and ScnEd. That's it. I wanted to use sonic boom and hover dust, neither seems to work either way.

Yep, the vagaries of different systems:  JumpDrive MFD works perfectly fine on my rig... haven't tried Hover Dust yet, but - like with another cool addon by computerex, the Asteroid-Generating Module (makes it look like you're hurtling through an asteroid field by creating and destroying asteroid "vessels") - I like my framerates at above 30/s, and am not that interested in all the eye-candy modules that I have run all at once, lol.

Ok, I added the thruster but I don't like it. The problem is that Orbiter automaticlly adds the Hover status to the screen. I feel this is misleading because there are no hover thrusters in any real functional way.

If the problem is because of the missing thruster then the real solution should be a change to the Dust module to not expect all thrusters to be defined. That is of course if it doesn't already check for that. If it does then it doesn't matter if I add the thruster or not and there is some other reason it's not working. I can provide the battlestar source to the Dust developer if they want to make it compatible with the battlestar.

"In space, no one can hear you vacuum...."  Of what use is hover dust/blowback on a Battlestar?  I'll admit that Galactica looks damned impressive on a Cape Canaveral landing pad, but when I'm ready to leave, I just scare the bejesus out of everyone around me by jumping directly away, lol.  Let THEM clean up the dust mess I left, by suddenly creating a Battlestar-sized vacuum that rushes together with a motherfracker of a thunderclap!

Body Snatchers R US?   Grin  Maybe we can send that question to the producers at Mythbusters?  How
big a sonic boom does a battlestar make jumping from 0 to max speed in the length of Cape Kennedy?
